2026 Golden Perch Release

Restocking golden perch into Billabong, Yanco and Colombo Creeks

25,000 Golden perch released across Billabong Creek, Yanco Creek and Colombo Creeks.

On January 14, 2026, YACTAC, in conjunction with NSW DPI $1 for $2 Fish Stocking Program, released 25,000 golden perch (Macquaria ambigua) at three different locations in Billabong, Yanco and Colombo Creeks. The Edward River Council also released golden perch and Murray cod (Maccullochella peelii) at a number of locations on the creek, and the Jerilderie Fishing Club did two releases of golden perch on Billabong Creek.

It was interesting to see how the number of fingerlings are estimated using weight, and how all the fingerlings are transported safely across different locations. Thanks to Leigh and Bailey from Tara Fish Hatchery for facilitating these restocking events. And a big thankyou to everyone who came along and joined in.
